Human Resources Manager

Position Title: Human Resources Manager
Department: Human Resources
Reports To: Vice President
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced, professional, and people-focused Human Resources Manager to lead all HR functions for a growing retail company with approximately 106 employees. This individual will oversee recruiting, employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, compliance, payroll support, policy development, and organizational development while serving as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment, maintains confidentiality, and is committed to building a positive workplace culture.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Human Resources Leadership

  • Manage all day-to-day Human Resources operations.
  • Serve as the primary HR resource for managers and employees.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Maintain employee personnel files and HR records.

Recruiting & Staffing

  • Coordinate recruiting efforts for retail, warehouse, and corporate positions.
  • Create job postings and manage applicant tracking.
  • Conduct interviews and coordinate hiring decisions.
  • Complete pre-employment screenings and background checks.
  • Prepare offer letters and employment documentation.
  • Lead new employee onboarding and orientation.

Employee Relations

  • Foster a positive work environment.
  • Investigate employee concerns and workplace issues.
  • Coach managers on performance management and disciplinary procedures.
  • Administer progressive discipline and documentation.
  • Conduct exit interviews and identify retention opportunities.

Performance Management

  • Coordinate annual employee evaluations.
  • Assist supervisors with coaching and employee development.
  • Recommend training programs and leadership development initiatives.
  • Monitor employee performance improvement plans.

Benefits & Payroll Administration

  • Administer employee benefits programs.
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment.
  • Process employee status changes.
  • Work closely with Payroll to ensure accurate employee information.
  • Assist employees with benefit questions and enrollment.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Maintain compliance with:
    • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
    • Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
    • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
    • Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)
    • OSHA regulations
    • Workers' Compensation requirements
    • I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification
  • Coordinate unemployment claims.
  • Manage workers' compensation claims and return-to-work programs.

HR Administration

  • Maintain HRIS and employee databases.
  • Prepare HR reports and workforce metrics.
  • Assist with budgeting for HR programs.
  • Coordinate employee recognition initiatives.
  • Organize company events and employee engagement activities.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 5 years of Human Resources experience, preferably in retail or multi-location operations.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Experience with employee relations and conflict resolution.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Preferred

  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
  • Experience with payroll systems and HRIS software.
  • Multi-location retail experience.
  • Experience supporting 100+ employees.
