Position Description
The Buyer for The Villager Home Décor is responsible for purchasing home décor merchandise and managing the merchandising of a specialty shop featuring home décor products. This position requires providing exceptional customer service and strong product knowledge. The Buyer will merchandise the Home Décor department, build displays, and implement promotional materials designed to increase sales.
Requirements
- Associate degree or equivalent experience
- Familiarity with email, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and general PC operations
- Willingness to learn the company’s Point of Sale (POS) system
- Must be willing to sign a non-compete agreement
- Previous work references required
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Must be willing to complete pre-employment and random post-employment drug screenings
Responsibilities
- Purchase home décor, gift, and specialty merchandise
- Maintain excellent working relationships with the Vice President of Buying
- Travel to buying shows requiring overnight stays (Fort Worth, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Greenville, SC, and New York)
- Create purchase orders including cost, retail pricing, payment terms, freight, cancellation policies, and shipping dates
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels to ensure customer satisfaction
- Demonstrate a strong sense of style and merchandising ability when decorating displays
- Maintain perpetual inventory records
- Achieve targeted gross margins and manage an open-to-buy budget
- Assist in merchandising products to maximize sales and profitability
- Report directly to the Vice President of the company
- Be willing to work as a Trainee/Apprentice for up to two years
- Apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, and handle problems involving several variables in standardized situations
- Perform basic mathematical calculations
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Maintain a professional appearance and attitude, contribute to a positive team environment, and follow all Neuse Sport Shop policies and procedures
- With or without reasonable accommodations, be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and maintain strong organizational skills
- Be proficient with various computer programs and hardware, including Excel and Winward
Education and Experience
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of an Associate Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Schedule
Candidates must be flexible to work an assigned schedule between 7:00 AM and 10:00 PM, Monday through Sunday. Schedules may include varied hours, days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Average work schedule is approximately 40 hours per week.
